They're called Vampire Weekend and they play some good old pop music, mixed with some tribal african rythims, some guitar riffs and some talking heads here and there. Their last album was great, so many good tracks, the general vibe, everything for those guys was working out perfectly. Lots of stuff to say but i start with some cool news about Lcd Soundsystem:
There will be a limited edition 7" single pressed up for the lcd/arcade fire tour: copies of the record will be available at the shows and the lcd soundsystem/arcade fire websites. the lcd side is a cover of joy division's "no love lost" and the arcade fire side is a cover of serge gainsbourg's "poupee de cire."

James Murphy and Co. will be performing on "the tonight show with jay leno" on september 19.

On september 18, lcd will release a digital ep in the us only entitled _a bunch of stuff_ of dfa/capitol, which will include franz ferdinand's cover of lcd's current single, "all my friends," plus remixes of other songs from _sound of silver_ by soulwax ("get innocuous"), carl craig ("sound of silver"), sorcerer ("us v them") and gucci soundsystem ("time to get away") as well as lcd soundsystem performing "us v them" live on "morning becomes eclectic."

Two more lcd releases are on their way. on november 12, 45:33 will be re-released on CD and 2LP by dfa records. 45:33 will come with with three uk b-sides that were not previously released in the states. and fabric records will release _fabriclive36: james murphy & pat mahoney_, a mix album from james

Ragazzi un sacco che non posto. nessuna scusa o nessuna ragione particolare a parte il fatto che di musica buona ne sta uscendo un pò meno ultimamente. Si, sarà l'estate e le sue regole commerciali che ne sconsigliano di essere il periodo di pubblicazione o forse un attimo di calma prima della tempesta autunnale. Nel marasma però di questa pochezza ecco due chicche degnissime di nota: Gli Editors sono appena usciti con il loro secondo album. Comprato settimana scorsa ragazzi non riesco a toglierlo dal player. Grandioso per pìù di metà del disco.... bello bello consigliato...

Oggi qualche curiosità: Prima di tutto mi sembra opportuno notare che gli Arcade Fire con il loro Neon Bible sono al secondo posto della top 200 billboard. La Merge Records ha sbancato e questa è la dimostrazione che le major devono guardarsi in faccia e capire che internet, la promozione online e gli mp3 sono un veicolo di promozione all'avanguardia, intelligente e sopratutto, oggi, anche di grande successo.

Passo ora ad un'altra curiosità. Qualche settimana fa, Eddie Vedder ha introdotto i R.E.M. nella Hall of fame. Un momento importante nella carriera delle rock band che possono permetterselo. Lcd Soundsystem è stato il nome che mi ha colpito forse maggiormente negli ultimi anni e James Murphy ne è la mente. Due settimane fa ero a Parigi, e girando in città in qualche modo si notava l'uscita dell'album dei Klaxons. Incredibile vedere la quantità di promozione che si è deciso d'investire su questi ragazzi. Io non ho ancora avuto la possibilità di ascoltare il disco, ma dai singoli che ho sentito, passato, e ballato mi sembra di poter dire che oltre ad essere esageratamente Hype c'é anche un pò di sostanza, almeno per quanto riguarda la scelta della gente da cui si fanno remixare. I primi amori non si scordano mai. 1992, l'album di esordio di questi ragazzi di Irvine, California apre il mondo musicale in due. Autori di pezzi che ancora oggi tutti conoscono, i Rage Against the Machine sono quanto di meglio mi permette di ricordare il boom del rock di inizio anni 90. Ecco, oggi girano voci insistenti su una reunion per il festival di Coachella, mecca dei festival indipendenti USA. Da qui la mia voglia di postare qualcosa di questa band che tanto ha dato a tutti noi appassionati di rock.

E ancora Bulls on Parade alla convention dei Democratici del 2000 allo Staples Center di Los Angeles. A pensarci bene forse era meglio lasciarli in pace i democratici...;)

Nel 2007, cambiamo completamente genere, gli Hold Steady hanno avuto un successo decisamente inaspettato, sopratutto considerato che fanno un rock propriamente classico. Trascinati dalla carismatica voce del loro leader restano impressi sopratutto per i testi veramente interessanti. Energia allo stato puro. Gli Arctic Monkeys in questo 2006 hanno saputo risvegliare in me una voglia di urlare che non pensavo di avere più dentro.

Tranquillamente il miglior disco Hip Hop dell'anno contiene la traccia più divertente dell'anno. Fishscale, Ghostface Killah. L'unico capace a tenere decisamente alto il nome del Wu-Tang Club.

7. Ellen Alien & Apparat - Way Out

Il giusto riconoscimento per un pezzo straordinario. La Berlino che pulsa e non smette mai di sorprendere. L'album con Apparat consigliato.

Senza ombra di dubbio il remix più stupefacente dell'anno. I Soulwax riescono a tirare fuori capolavori incredibili. E con una traccia vocale così. Grande voce.

Che classe i londinesi. Grande singolo per un album, The Warning, che merita tutto il vostro rispetto.
